1st Leadership Camp in Honduras: An excellent springboard for the development of the ITF

(Québec, July, 21th 2006)

The ITF's initiative in offering the 1st Leadership Camp was applauded by all 21 participants from 9 countries!

At the beginning of the camp, four objectives were set for the group by Master Tran, ITF President:

  1. improve the technical standard;
  2. develop skills relevant to TKD business;
  3. develop leadership skills to lead ITF local organizations;
  4. develop team spirit among the participants.

Responding to the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the camp, the participants rated the teaching they received as:

  • excellent - 90% (19/21)
  • very good - 10% (2/21)

All of the participants said they would recommend this camp to others!

The camp started at 9 AM on Sunday July 9th at the Coliseum of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The program included technical training in the morning (a total of 12 hours) including tournament aspect (umpire and coaching) with doboks, while in the afternoon we worked in the classroom at the Amadera Hotel to cover theory and practical aspects of various topics such as: TKD business management and the operation and leadership of the ITF (a total of 16 hours).

Each participant received a notebook containing documents about the topics covered. Many of the texts were also provided in Spanish for our Central American masters and instructors.

The atmosphere was excellent! The teaching team encouraged the exchange of ideas and discussions. The participants were relaxed and enthusiastic to learn!

As conclusion of the Camp, Master Tran said he was extremely satisfied with the result of this 1st Leadership Camp, which is a pilot project. He promised that the ITF will add this new service to the list of services the ITF offers to its affiliated organizations. He believes that the ITF leadership camp is a very good platform to develop understanding and trust among the ITF leaders and the regional leaders and this activity is the strategic development tool will help our participants to gain the confidence and skills necessary to make a successful career with the ITF-TKD in the future.

The 2nd ITF Leadership Camp will be held before the World Cup in Benidorm, Spain from October 22nd to 24th. Invitations will be sent to all NAs and ANAs affiliated to the ITF, and announcements about the program will be on the ITF website soon.

Here is a small sample of the feedback received from the participants:

  • I learned a lot in what is the job of a teacher, Instructors and how we can teach our students and help them. Thank you very much.
  • I believe my expectations were covered and I want to encourage the ITF to continue with more of this type of seminars around the world.
  • Very Good. We were taught to see that Taekwon-Do is not only a hobby; it is a way of life and can help create a new organization. Excellent- this is our objective and that of the ITF!
