Technical seminar in the Netherlands
(October 11th, 2008)
On the weekend of 19 – 21 September 2008 there was a technical seminar in the southern part of the Netherlands. Around 70 participants from Belgium and around Netherlands were present. Master Willy van de Mortel, 7th Degree and Technical Director of ITF-Netherlands invited Mr. Mariusz Steckiewicz, 6th degree of Polish origin, now living in Finland, to conduct this seminar, as he did in 2003 and 2004. Mariusz Steckiewicz is well noted for his technical skills, as a competitor (3-times European Champion and 6-times Polish Champion) and now as a coach. ![]() On the Friday evening there was a kids class, with a mix of fun games related to Taekwon-Do and new technical exercises. The kids really enjoyed it. On Saturday and Sunday there were two sessions each day. The main subject of the whole seminar was “How to generate power”, with Mariusz explaining his own ideas on the subject. We all had take our belts off for some exercises to make this clear – and he also made use of some small pads. With these exercises you could understand the theory and really feel the difference. Comments such as “listen to you own body” were frequently used. ![]() Left: Mariusz Steckiewicz and Willy van de Mortel; Right: Mariusz correct sabum Carlo van de Braak. The feedback after the seminar was good and already students are asking when Mariusz Steckiewicz is coming back for another seminar! On behalf of the organising club – Difesa, Master Willy van de Mortel would like to thank Mr. Mariusz Steckiewicz for his time, and looking forward to his returning.
