Back to the President's Message January & February

Dear friends,

I would like to begin the new year by thanking you for your many positive comments about my “President’s Messages”. Your interest in my messages – particularly those about fundamental issues - encourages me to continue.

For 2007, my first message is about the importance of making Taekwon-Do your way of life. How can we use our knowledge and training to fulfill the student’s oath: “I shall build a more peaceful world”? The answer can be found in the Encyclopedia of Taekwon-Do. Our Founder, General Choi wrote: “The philosophy of Taekwon-Do is based on the ethical, moral, and spiritual standards by which men can live together in harmony.” So our goal should be to live in harmony with the Taekwon-Do philosophy.

General Choi also taught us that ITF Taekwon-Do has four facets: It is a sport, a martial art, a way of life, and a tool for social development. To receive the full benefits of Taekwon-Do and become a good person with a balanced life, we need to develop all four facets.

ITF Taekwon-Do training helps you to have a healthy body and a healthy mind. It teaches you to defend yourself and others. As we progress in knowledge and skills, it is natural to want to benefit more fully by making Taekwon-Do our way of life and using it as a tool for social development. This is how we can help to build a more peaceful world where justice and freedom prevail.

Participating in Taekwon-Do activities as a family will have a positive effect on your life. In the message, you will read about the Paquet-Martineau family. They are all involved in Taekwon-Do and recognize the value and benefits of living the Taekwon-Do way of life.

I also discuss the importance of working for justice and basic human rights, including the protection of our physical environment.

Please take the time to read the entire message to learn how you can make ITF Taekwon-Do your way of life. Applying Taekwon-Do principles in your life will produce positive results for you, your family, your friends, your students, and your community.

I send to each of you my best wishes for a happy and successful 2007 - living the Taekwon-Do way of life!
